THIRD PERIOD

0.0: The Oilers conclude their five-game road trip with a 4-1 loss to the Avs. They do, however, pick up six out of a possible 10 points. Next up is Vancouver at Rogers Place on Saturday.

53.4: Kassian looks to blow off some steam against Kadri but the Avs forward does not comply. Both go to the box.

7:53: The clubs go back to even strength and Caleb Jone tries to find Markus Granlund heading to the net but he swings and misses.

11:35: Edmonton kills Russell’s minor and after it expires J.T. Compher barrels over Koskinen going to the net. Darnell Nurse stands up for his netminder and takes a two-minute minor while Compher also goes off.

13:43: K. Russell has returned to the ice but takes a tripping penalty. The Avs get their fourth PP of the evening.

14:23: Make that three quicks ones for Colorado with the latest coming from Logan O’Connor’s backhander. | COL 4, EDM 1

15:53: MacKinnon chops at a rebound and it leaks past the goal-line. The Avs go up by two in the third. | COL 3, EDM 1

16:55: Another 2-on-1 goal is allowed against as MacKinnon finds Matt Nieto off the rush. The Avs take a 2-1 lead. | COL 2, EDM 1

20:00: The third period has begun! During the intermission, the Oilers announced that Chiasson will not return to action tonight due to an upper-body injury.

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: Another eventful 20 minutes is over as the Oilers get into penalty trouble and lose three bodies from the bench (Chiasson, Russell, Larsson). Koskinen is ON, putting on a goaltending clinic. He made 18 saves in the second period alone, giving up a single to Kadri. Buckle up for the third.

2:05: The Oilers can’t convert on the power play. Shots are 28-17 COL.

4:50: Khaira shifts his way to a partial break but gets tripped up. The Oilers will get their first man advantage of the evening.

8:38: Nikita Zadorov and Archibald tussle in the Avs’ zone leading to both going to the box. The two sides will play 4-on-4 hockey for two minutes.

9:10: The Avs finally beat Koskinen with a Nazem Kadri wrister off the rush. | EDM 1, COL 1

10:51: More highway glovery from Koskinen as he catches MacKinnon’s in-flight wrister.

11:46: OH MY MIKKO! The keeper makes three consecutive saves on the Oilers stingy penalty kill, helping the club suppress the full 5-on-3. The Oilers may have gone down another defenceman, however, as Kris Russell heads to the dressing room.

14:20: Draisaitl is called for tripping now, giving the Avs a 5-on-3 for two minutes.

17:15: Alex Chiasson is hit in open ice by Ryan Graves and Adam Larsson retaliates with a major against T.J. Tynan. Larsson receives five minutes and game misconduct for elbowing. The Oilers will be forced to go shorthanded for five and will roll five defencemen, while Chiasson gets looked at in the dressing room.

20:00: The second period has begun!

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: Khaira’s marker puts the Oilers ahead in a back-and-forth, entertaining first 20. Koskinen has been superb with 14 saves already while Grubauer has turned aside 12.

1:02: The Oilers get a net-front chance after Archibald’s penalty is neutralized but Connor McDavid can’t beat Grubauer.

3:54: Josh Archibald is flagged for interference in the offensive zone, giving the Avs the game’s first power play.

5:15: Nathan MacKinnon slices to the net and gets a shot off from the slot but Koskinen is up to the task to make the stop.

6:43: WELCOME BACK, JUJHAR KHAIRA! The Oilers winger – sidelined for two games with a hand injury – makes a power move to the net and backhands a shot far side on Grubauer in what has been a high-octane first. That’s his fifth goal of the season! | EDM 1, COL 0

18:11: Leon Draisaitl goes cross-crease for Zack Kassian and his one-timer right off the hop is denied by Philipp Grubauer.
