THIRD PERIOD
0.0: We’re heading to overtime in Glendale thanks to Granlund’s tying goal! Shots are 33-28 for Edmonton after regulation.
3:50: McDavid dishes to Kassian in the slot and his quick release is bumped out by the shoulder of Kuemper.
6:48: MARKUS GRAND-LUND! The Finn comes up big late in the third, scoring on his own rebound in the SECOND consecutive game! He now has three goals on the season – all of which have come on this road trip! | EDM 3, ARI 3
9:15: The Oilers top line gets more zone time but can’t funnel anything to the net as the Coyotes do a good job of defending.
13:28: MIKKO! The keeper ROBS Grabner at the side of the net, then keeps the door shut as mayhem manifests ahead of the crease.
15:23: Conor Garland blisters a shot wide off the rush in what is a high-paced third period.
20:00: The third period has begun with the Oilers behind by one in a match between the two top clubs in the Pacific.
SECOND PERIOD
0.0: Arizona puts six shots on goal in the middle frame and two of them leak past Koskinen. Edmonton trails 3-2 heading to the third in Glendale.
2:00: The Coyotes continue to push after gaining momentum from their two quick markers. Shots are 24-21 Edmonton as they search for the equalizer.
6:35: The Desert Dogs make it two goals in a row as Vinnie Hinostroza banks the puck off Koskinen’s blocker and in. Arizona takes the lead in the middle stanza. | ARI 3, EDM 2
8:08: Christian Fischer holds McDavid’s leg hostage in the neutral zone, buying time to get up and find soft ice in the slot as he wires a one-timer in to tie it up for Arizona. | EDM 2, ARI 2
8:44: The Oilers second line of Neal-Gagner-Chiasson continues to create, as the three cycle the puck in Arizona’s end. Oliver Ekman-Larsson later skates it out and zips a shot that Koskinen handles.
14:17: Edmonton’s top line hems the ‘Yotes in their zone for an extended period but Draisaitl’s saucer pass bounces out of the zone.
18:38: CHIASSER! Gagner tries to make a centring pass across for Neal but it doesn’t get through, coming right back to Gagner who finds Chiasson as the late man in with an open net. Chiasson fires home his second of the year. Gagner and Oscar Klefbom get the helpers. | EDM 2, ARI 1
20:00: The second period has begun!
FIRST PERIOD
0.0: The two top clubs in the Pacific Division have an entertaining first period, with 29 total shots being put on goal. Neal got the Oilers the early lead on the power play but Soderberg knotted it up with a man-advantage tally of his own.
2:35: Michael Grabner tips a point shot and hits the post. The puck idles bear the goal-line but Nurse swats it out of danger.
3:42: Markus Granlund finds Ethan Bear in the slot and he snaps a shot at Kuemper, who blockers it up and out of play.
6:48: Shots are 12-8 ARI in the first.
10:17: Carl Soderberg walks in and beats Koskinen low glove on the power play to knot this one up at 1-1. The two sides trade man-advantage markers in the first.| EDM 1, ARI 1
12:13: Joakim Nygard takes a slashing minor. The Oilers are back to being shorthanded.
13:29: Coyotes keeper Darcy Kuemper kicks out to stop Darnell Nurse’s one-timer then regroups for Caleb Jones subsequent slapper.
14:20: The ‘Yotes buzz around the Oilers net but can’t beat Koskinen on the man advantage. Oilers get the early kill.
17:11: Patrick Russell gets called for slashing. Arizona gets a power play right back after the Oilers scored on theirs.
17:55: THE DUO TO THE REAL DEAL! James Neal taps in Leon Draisaitl’s perfect doorstep dish to give the Oilers an early lead. Neal now has 14 goals on the year and 10 on the power play. Connor McDavid gets the secondary assist to extend his point streak to 11 games! | EDM 1, ARI 0
18:19: Nick Schmaltz goes across for Phil Kessel on a 2-on-1 and Mikko Koskinen stretches to his left to get a pad on the shot. The Coyotes then take a too many men minor, giving the Oilers an early power play.
20:00: Tonight’s game has begun as Sam Gagner steps in for Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, who’s been dealing with a lingering hand issue. Gagner slots into the second line with Alex Chiasson and James Neal.
