0.0: The Oilers respond by dominating much of the play following Theodore’s goal but can’t regain the two-goal lead. Shots are 22-17 heading to the third.

5:41: Shea Theodore dances his way to the net and fires a shot that eludes Smith. The Golden Knights get back within one. | EDM 3, VGK 2

7:56: SECONDARY SCORERS! Haas gets in on the forecheck then Patrick Russell and Markus Granlund follow up in support, culminating in a net-front backhander by Granlund that beat Fleury. Granlund now has two goals on the Oilers five-game trip and his 100th career point. Haas and Russell get the assists. | EDM 3, VGK 1

11:41: McDavid hits the post off the rush and Draisaitl is hauled down in his attempt at getting to the rebound. Brayden McNabb goes off for interference. The Oilers go to the power play for the first time tonight.

12:39: BACK AND FORTH HOCKEY! The two sides trade chance after chance as Gaëtan Haas gains a step for a partial break but gets checked at the last second. Tough guy Ryan Reaves then unloads a heavy wrister from the wing.

15:00: Nugent-Hopkins goes tape-to-tape for Josh Archibald on a 2-on-1 but Fleury dashes across for the pad save.

16:51: The Oilers fourth line gets grinding in Vegas’ end, with Kris Russell’s point shot finding a deflection and dinging the crossbar.

20:00: The second period has begun!

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: The Oilers take a 2-1 lead into the second period thanks to goals from McDavid and Bear. Smith stops eight of nine shots in the first.

19.4: Cody Eakin whacks at a bouncing puck ahead of the Oilers goal crease and the puck finds a way through Smith. Vegas cuts the deficit in half with less than a minute left in the first. | EDM 2, VGK 1

4:00: THE BEAR IS AWAKE! Draisaitl dishes a perfect feed to Ethan Bear at the point and he wires a wrister in and out to give the Oilers a 2-0 lead. Bear gets his fourth of the year with the tally. Draisaitl and Kassian get the assists once again. | EDM 2, VGK 0

4:41: The Golden Knights begin to wake up as Pacioretty’s shot goes wide off the rush. Shots are now 8-7 Edmonton.

8:04: Max Pacioretty walks in and tries to backhand the puck over Mike Smith but the keeper fastens tight to the post to keep it out.

10:03: The Oilers continue to outwork the Golden Knights. Edmonton leads the shot count 7-3 halfway through the opening frame.

12:42: Nugent-Hopkins thinks he scores after depositing what appeared to be a loose puck but the refs blew the whistle Fleury attempted to cover it. It looks like the call on the ice of no goal will stand.

14:43: OH MY MCDAVID! The Oilers Captain waits, waits and waits for Marc-Andre Fleury to bite then tucks the puck past him, extending his point streak to 10 games with his 17th of the year. He has 11 goals and 11 assists over that time. Leon Draisaitl and Zack Kassian get the helpers. | EDM 1, VGK 0

15:51: The Oilers get a 2-on-1 of their own as James Neal sends the puck across to Ryan Nugent-Hopkins but his wrister is tipped high and out of play.

18:19: A 2-on-1 emerges for the Golden Knights but Oscar Klefbom sacrifices the body to block the shot and then clear the puck.
