13:26: THE CAPTAIN! McDavid makes it three points on the night, putting back a rebound in front. The Oilers are swimming away with this one as they lead 5-1 in the third. Nurse and Draisaitl get the assists as McDavid now has 20 points in his last eight outings. | EDM 5, SJ 1

13:40: The Oilers kill McDavid’s minor and are now 22-for-22 on the PK in their last six games.

16:00: McDavid is flagged for holding the stick. The Oilers go back to the penalty kill.

17:10: The Oilers get a few high-quality scoring chances on the power play, most notably RNH’s one-timer from the slot, but they fail to bury.

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: Edmonton gets a power-play tally from Neal in the second to take a three-goal lead into the third against San Jose. After allowing 18 shots on goal in the first, the Oilers give up only seven in the second and Koskinen saved them all. The Orange & Blue will have 59 seconds of man-advantage time to open the third.

1:01: The Oilers go back to the power play as Brenden Dillon interferes with Draisaitl.

3:40: The Dynamic Duo work their magic, with McDavid feeding Draisaitl for a partial break then Draisaitl finding McDavid with open ice for an individual effort. Neither finds twine but they do draw a hooking minor from Mario Ferraro. The Oilers get their first power play of the night.

6:22: The Oilers get hemmed in their own zone but Koskinen keeps the door shut then covers the puck to get a whistle.

9:21: News comes down that Matt Benning (upper body) will not return to action in tonight’s game. The Oilers will roll five defenders now.

13:06: Leon Draisaitl makes a great backhand pass to an incoming Nurse on the rush but he zings a wrist shot wide.

17:20: The Sharks plunge into the second on the attack, with Jumbo Joe finding Melker Karlsson in the slot but his shot went wide.

20:00: The second period has begun in San Jose!

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: A rollercoaster first period concludes with the Oilers up 3-1 despite being out-shot 18-9. The goals come from Granlund, Kassian and Khaira while Koskinen has stood tall with 17 stops.

14.6: TAKIN’ KHAIRA BUSINESS! Jujhar Khaira sees a maze of bodies in front and decides to pick the top corner from the blueline to regain the Oilers two-goal advantage. He now has three goals in his last two games and four on the year. | EDM 3, SJ 1

9:41: Kassian gets called for hooking. The Oilers first-ranked road PK goes to work.

13:04: The Sharks turn the tide up ice but Mikko Koskinen rides the wave. He stops Joe Thornton’s backhander off the rush then Marcus Sorenson’s one-timer from the slot. Koskinen has six saves tonight already.

16:26: SWEDE PASS FOR THE FINNISH! Oscar Klefbom walks in from the point and finds Markus Granlund on the wing with an open net to notch his first of the year and second point.
