THIRD PERIOD
0.0: The Oilers secure a point with the late game-tying goal courtesy of Kassian. The club will head to overtime for the second straight match.
4:41: TIE GAME! Benning shoots from the point and Gaetan Haas tips it in front! That’s his first career NHL goal. Oilers get the equalizer late. | EDM 2, ARI 2
10:57: Draisaitl muscles Oliver Ekman-Larsson from getting the puck then feeds McDavid crashing for the net but he’s stopped by the shoulder of Kuemper.
14:13: Edmonton kills Neal’s minor. After it expired, Patrick Russell made a nice pass to Colby Cave in the left dot, who tried to find the stick of Markus Granlund on the doorstep but the Finn just missed.
18:36: The Oilers move the puck around on their early third-period power play but it ends with a James Neal tripping minor. The teams will play 4-on-4 for 29 seconds then the Coyote will go on the man advantage.
20:00: The third period has begun with the Oilers on the power play!
SECOND PERIOD
0.0: Soderberg’s goal off the rush puts the Desert Dogs up after 40. The Oilers will begin the third period with 1:53 of power-play time to work with.
7.3: McDavid makes a great play to the net, forcing Soderberg to take a hooking penalty.
2:09: Draisaitl whips a wicked one-timer on the power play but it doesn’t find the back of the net. Oilers are 0-for-1 on the PP tonight.
4:51: The Oilers get another strong kill – their second of the evening – and will now go on a power play of their own after Matt Benning was tripped up in the offensive zone.
7:30: McDavid gets tangled up with Christian Fischer and he falls, causing an interference call against the Oilers Captain.
11:08: Carl Soderberg prevents Joel Persson’s point shot from going through, causing a break the other way. He gains a step on the Swede and rips a shot high glove to make it 2-1 Coyotes. | ARI 2, EDM 1
11:38: Coach Dave Tippett makes a slight change to the top line, substituting Alex Chiasson for Sam Gagner.
13:32: Vinnie Hinostroza walks in from the wing and releases a wrister but Koskinen pumps his chest to make the save.
17:25: Koskinen stops everything he sees on the penalty kill to help neutralize the Coyotes’ power play.
19:38: Kassian gets called for holding. The Coyotes get the game’s first man advantage.
20:00: The second period has begun.
FIRST PERIOD
0.0: McDavid puts the Oilers on the board early but Grabner answers right back as the two sides exit the opening 20 knotted up 1-1. Shots are 8-7 ‘Yotes.
1:52: Conor Garland causes all sorts of mayhem in front of Koskinen but the Oilers keeper gets his glove up to foil the Coyotes forward’s shot.
2:57: Oscar Klefbom wires a slapper from the point and Zack Kassian looks for the garbage in front but Kuemper covers the puck up.
10:43: Jujhar Khaira grinds along the boards in the Coyotes zone, generating some pressure but the Oilers can’t get anything past Kuemper in the sequence. Shots are 3-2 ARI.
16:30: The Coyotes get it right back, as Michael Grabner fires a wrister from the wing that eludes Mikko Koskinen’s blocker. | EDM 1, ARI 1
18:29: THE MAGIC OF MCDAVID! The Oilers Captain accepts a feed from Leon Draisaitl in the neutral zone then dances his way to the net, tucking the puck far side on goaltender Darcy Kuemper. That’s McDavid’s seventh of the season and 24th point, while Draisaitl gets the lone helper. | EDM 1, ARI 0
