FIRST PERIOD

0.0: Riley Sheahan takes a hit late in the period and battles to get to the bench. The Oilers get the start they were looking for, however, scoring twice in the first to take a 2-0 score into the second.

2:58: GERMAN ENGINEERING! Nugent-Hopkins slams the puck on net then gets the rebound, zipping it across to Draisaitl for the one-timer. Draisaitl and Neal continue their goal race as that’s Draisaitl’s 11th of the season. | EDM 2, CBJ 0

5:01: Columbus takes their third minor of the period, with Sonny Milano slashing the stick out of Matt Benning’s hand despite him not having the puck. That’s interference.

10:49: NEALER! Mike Smith threads the needle up the ice for a quick-up that eventually finds its way to James Neal’s tape all alone. He goes low to beat Korpisalo on the power play, scoring his 11th of the year and eighth on the man advantage. Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid get the helpers. | EDM 1, CBJ 0

12:32: Pierre-Luc Dubois trips Ethan Bear in the neutral zone to give the Oilers their second power play of the evening.

13:33: Columbus doesn’t let the Oilers set up on the power play, killing Edmonton’s first opportunity. After it expired, Khaira broke through the offensive zone and released a shot that Joonas Korpisalo got a piece of with his blocker.

16:48: Columbus takes the game’s first penalty as Oliver Bjorkstrand goes off for holding.

17:35: The Oilers second line of Jujhar Khaira, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Sam Gagner sustain some pressure in the Blue Jackets’ zone, kicking the puck up top to Joel Persson, who let a blast go that rang off the post and out.
