0.0: The Oilers drop a 3-1 score versus the Red Wings in their first of a three-game road trip. The club gets back at it Wednesday against Columbus.

41.7: Filip Hronek dumps an empty-net goal in to put the Red Wings back up by two. | DET 3, EDM 1

1:46: Just under two minutes are left to play as the Oilers seek the game-tying tally.

4:12: The Oilers go with an all-forward power-play unit and try to bank a Draisaitl one-timer home for the equalizer but Detroit escapes the penalty unscathed.

6:25: Larkin hooks Draisaitl, giving the Oilers a 4-on-3 advantage.

6:51: KOSKINEN! The Oilers keeper does the splits to keep Athanasiou’s breakaway attempt from crossing the line. A scrum ensues right after as Nurse and Athanasiou go off for roughing.

7:12: DRAISAITL! The Oilers top line forces a turnover in Detroit’s end then McDavid and Draisaitl orchestrate a give-and-go to cut the deficit in half. | DET 2, EDM 1

9:40: Gagner intercepts a centring pass in the Red Wings’ zone but can’t get enough mustard on his shot to beat Howard. Oilers continue pushing but remain down by two.

12:51: Nurse floats a point shot on the net looking for a stick in front but Howard gets his trapper on the puck.

14:27: Draisaitl tries to catch Howard unprepared following a bounce off the end boards but can’t get his backhander to go.

17:43: Neal puts a sharp angle shot at Howard looking for it to leak through the netminder but he covers up the puck.

20:00: The third period has begun.

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: The Oilers exit the second frame still down by a pair. Shots were 9-10 DET in the second and are 15-23 overall.

30.6: McDavids cuts to the net and tries to go far side on his backhand but it goes wide. Andreas Athanasiou wheels the other way and gets a partial break against Koskinen but is turned away.

2:46: Sam Gagner finds Ryan Nugent-Hopkins in the slot but his wrister is gobbled up by Howard.

6:41: The Oilers kill Bear’s minor and will not get a power play of their own thanks to Helm’s interference on McDavid.

8:53: Ethan Bear takes a holding penalty against Larkin as he busts to the Oilers net.

12:50: Mantha drops to Valtteri Filppula as he’s headed to the net and the forward tries to go short side but Koskinen jumps out to make the save with his chest.

15:33: James Neal clips Givani Smith in the Oilers zone, guilty of an interference charge. Oilers go back to the kill.

16:37: Bertuzzi takes Mantha’s feed off the rush but misses the cage.

18:33: The Oilers open the second with some early pressure but can’t beat Howard.

20:00: The second period starts with the Oilers on the man advantage.

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: Edmonton goes down by a pair in a span of 52 seconds, giving up goals to Larkin on the power play then Nemeth at even strength. Shots are 13-5 after 20. The Oilers will get 50 seconds of power-play time to work with to open the second period.

1:10: Draisaitl is tripped on the breakout by Helm to give Edmonton a chance to cut the lead in half on the power play.

5:51: Detroit continues controlling the play, out-shooting Edmonton 9-4 near the five-minute mark of the period.

11:27: Patrik Nemeth walks in and claps a slapper glove side to make it 2-0 Red Wings. | DET 2, EDM 0

12:19: Dylan Larkin finds space at the side of the net then goes far side on Koskinen to open the scoring. | DET 1, EDM 0

12:41: Darren Helm attacks on a breakaway, trying to go blocker side but Mikko Koskinen makes the stop. Leon Draisaitl later hits Tyler Bertuzzi. He’ll sit two minutes for boarding as the Red Wings’ 12.8 percent power play gets a chance against the Oilers.

14:57: Zack Kassian delivers two crushing hits behind the Red Wings goal-line then pounces on a slot rebound but Jimmy Howard turns him away. Things are chippy early as both sides get physical.

19:03: The Red Wings come out flying, getting an early 2-on-1 but Anthony Mantha’s shot was wide of the mark.

20:00: Tonight’s game has begun!
