THIRD PERIOD
0.0: The Oilers notch TWO in the third to square it up against the Caps and send it to overtime.
1:37: EXTRA MAN EQUALIZER! Neal finds McDavid in the slot and he squeezes the puck through Holtby for his sixth of the season to tie it up late. | EDM 3, WSH 3
4:12: Kassian spins and whips a backhander on net but Holtby covers up the rebound.
8:24: Oilers lead the shots 33-27 as they continue to eye the equalizer.
13:56: McDavid dips, dangles and dodges to give himself a partial break at the net, hitting the crossbar and sending the puck out of play.
15:35: DRAT! Kassian springs McDavid and Draisaitl on a 2-on-1, with McDavid dishing over to Draisaitl who goes high on Holtby to get the Oilers within one. Draisaitl’s goal is his seventh of the year and second point of the night. | WSH 3, EDM 2
15:50: Vrana snaps a shot on net from the wing and Koskinen kicks it out of play.
20:00: The third period has begun with the Oilers down by a pair.
SECOND PERIOD
0.0: The Caps net a trio of goals in the second frame to get ahead by a score of 3-1. Shots are 25-19 EDM after 40.
34.1: James Neal’s wrister pops out to Nurse but his rebound is stymied by Holtby.
2:02: Kassian and Tom Wilson get into a scrum in front of Washington’s net. Both players are shown the door to the penalty box for roughing, meaning 4-on-4 hockey for two minutes.
4:54: Kassian is absolutely robbed by Holtby on an Oilers 3-on-1. Shots are 21-16 Edmonton but they trail by two near the end of the second.
6:20: Ovechkin goes top corner on the power play to give the Caps a two-goal lead. That’s The Great 8’s 250th career power-play goal. | WSH 3, EDM 1
8:01: Matt Benning closes his hand on the puck and gets a minor for it. The Oilers go back to the penalty kill.
8:08: Connor McDavid tries to break loose up the middle and nearly does but the puck gets checked off his stick by Radko Gudas.
13:33: Ovechkin tips a point shot to give the Caps two goals in less than a minute. They now take the lead. | WSH 2, EDM 1
14:20: Jakub Vrana spins and shoots, picking the corner to beat Koskinen. | EDM 1, WSH 1
15:15: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins gets the best look on the power play, trying to go to his backhand on Holtby but the netminder stretched across to make the save.
19:34: Alex Ovechkin gets two minutes in the sin bin for slashing. Oilers get their second power play of the evening.

FIRST PERIOD
0.0: Edmonton kills Granlund’s minor. The home side exits the first period ahead 1-0 thanks to Nurse’s marker. Shots after 20 are 11-8 Oilers.
2:05: Granlund tries to clear the puck from the Oilers zone but sends it out of play. He goes off for delay of game.
6:40: THE DOC! Darnell Nurse accepts a pass from Leon Draisaitl then tries to centre a feed but gets a favourable bounce off Nick Jensen’s stick that goes in instead. That’s Nurse’s second goal and eighth point of the year. Draisaitl grabs point No. 17 with the helper while Kassian gets the secondary assist. | EDM 1, WSH 0
9:20: Shots are 7-6 in favour of Edmonton.
11:11: The Oilers don’t convert on their first power play of the night.
15:52: Zack Kassian is hooked by Evgeny Kuznetsov to warrant an early Oilers power play.
16:41: Mikko Koskinen slides across to eat Chandler Stephenson’s one-timer from the right dot.
17:30: The Oilers fourth line gets the best chance early as Patrick Russell dishes to Markus Granlund who finds Sam Gagner in the slot but his shot is thwarted by Braden Holtby.
20:00: The puck has dropped as the Metropolitan Division’s best faces the top of the Pacific Division!
