9:08: KASSASSINATION! Draisaitl finds Kassian on the wing and he RIPS the puck top corner to square it up at 2-2. Both Draisaitl and Kassian have two points on the night. | EDM 2, VAN 2

10:19: Edmonton kills the penalty but after the play continued, a Tyler Myers point shot appeared to get tipped on its way to the net to beat Smith. | VAN 2, EDM 1

14:29: Smith absolutely ROBS Tanner Pearson from the slot then goes into the scorpion position to get the rebound. Oilers later get called for their second too many men penalty.

17:34: Alex Chiasson throws the puck on net and Gaëtan Haas almost gets a piece.

20:00: The third period is under way!

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: The horn sounds to end the second frame. Edmonton gets a barrage of chances but Markstrom turns them all aside, while Smith cedes a single to Edler.

4:17: Both clubs continue to trade power plays as Benning goes off for slashing.

6:11: The Oilers bang away at the door but Markstrom keeps it shut firmly, gluing his left pad to the post.

7:46: Now Vancouver plays the puck with too many men on the ice, warranting a bench minor. Oilers go back to the power play.

8:02: Edler’s point shot finds a way through everyone to tie it up for the Canucks just as the penalty expired. | EDM 1, VAN 1

10:03: Oilers get called for too many men. Nygard to serve.

11:41: The Orange & Blue kill Cave’s minor then tilt the ice in their favour, cycling in the offensive zone but failing to net one.

14:09: The Oilers stay tight on the kill, tipping passes and getting in lanes.

15:29: Colby Cave puts his glove over the puck in the offensive zone, killing the play. He gets called for handling the puck. The Oilers are shorthanded for the first time this season.

19:30: Neal chips the puck off the boards for Joakim Nygard and he streaks in off the wing for a dangerous shot.

20:00: The second period has begun!

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: The Oilers withstand a heavy onslaught from the Canucks to end the period. In the process, defenceman Adam Larsson blocked a slap shot from the point, remaining on the ice until the buzzer sounded. Oilers exit the first up 1-0 and down in the shot count 14-9.

5:09: Miller busts in behind the Oilers defence and tries to out-wait Smith to his forehand to no avail.

8:24: Goaltender Mike Smith continues his puck play, entering the trapezoid many times to help start the breakout with passes to the Oilers defence.

10:34: Draisaitl JUST about gets his second of the period, slamming Ryan Nugent-Hopkins centring feed blocker side on Jacob Markstrom.

14:18: THE QUEST FOR 50 MORE! Zack Kassian sweeps a behind-the-back pass for Leon Draisaitl on the doorstep and he roofs it to mark the first goal of the Oilers season. Kassian and Matt Benning get the assists. This one comes just after the power play expired. | EDM 1, VAN 0
