THIRD PERIOD

0.0: Oilers muster a comeback in the third but can’t finish it off as Rieder’s second of the game proves the difference in the final pre-season matchup for the Oilers of ’19-20. See you on Wednesday when the real games begin!

5:39: Puck pops out to Rider at the top of the circle to restore Calgary’s lead. CGY 3, EDM 2

8:43: JUST. LIKE. THAT. It’s a tie game, and this time it’s Kassian benefitting from another slick feed from Nygard to level things up in the final 10 minutes. EDM 2, CGY 2

9:14: GOT ONE BACK! Joakim Nygard’s centering pass on the power play finds the stick of Gaetan Haas, who deflects his effort over Rittich’s shoulder. Bear gets the second helper. CGY 2, EDM 1

11:00: Mangiapane roughs up Brandon Manning and earns himself two in the box for his actions.

15:28: The Oilers get it right back thanks to a bench minor for too many men from Calgary. 15 seconds of 4-on-4 to come before the Oilers fourth power play.

17:13: Darnell Nurse to the box for tripping.

20:00: Third-period action underway. Oilers still with 36 seconds of power-play time.

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: That’ll do it for the second period. Flames get goals from Rieder and Lucic to take a two-goal advantage into the final frame.

1:25: Draisaitl gets plastered from behind by Michael Frolik, who gets the boarding call. Oilers to the PP.

2:08: Sheahan lets fly a dangerous wrist shot from the point into traffic that looked to take a deflection before almost fooling Rittich.

11:12: Fitting the script, Milan Lucic continues the theme of scoring against old teams by adding a power-play tally to double Calgary’s lead. CGY 2, EDM 0

11:31: Granlund with the hook. Oilers down a man and down a goal.

11:58: Zack Kassian shows great hand-eye coordination to bat the puck down and earn himself a breakaway, but Rittich once again denies the Oilers.

13:34: Rieder opens the scoring. The former Oiler snaps one far side on Koskinen. CGY 1, EDM 0

17:06: Tomas Jurco with the dish to Leon Draisaitl at the back post, but Rittich comes up with the huge stop shorthanded.

18:06: Oilers back to the PP with Andrew Macdonald in the box for hooking.

20:00: Here we go! Second period is underway.

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: First period concludes here in Calgary and we’re all square 0-0 with shots 9-3 in favour of the Flames. Oilers still with 53 seconds of Bear’s penalty to kill when the second period begins.

1:07: Ethan Bear, the hero from Thursday’s game in Vancouver, takes the high-sticking penalty.

3:41: Both teams 0-for-1 on the power play as the Oilers first chance goes waning.

5:41: All the former Oilers getting in on the action, as Tobias Rieder heads to the box for goaltender interference to hand the Oilers their first PP opportunity.

10:33: Oilers penalty kill coming through again; now 6-for-6 in the last three games.

12:33: Adam Larsson to the box for interference after a Flame is tripped up in the neutral zone. First man advantage to the home side.

14:22: First rough stuff ensues as Bear gets tripped into the boards after the whistle. Former Oiler Milan Lucic in the centre of the action, as expected.

16:50: Markus Granlund back in the lineup for the Oilers tonight and gets the first good chance in front, but David Rittich makes the stop.
