FOURTH OVERTIME

15:40: That’s it. San Diego wins it in quadruple overtime as Maxime Comtois’ backhander beats Starrett. We’ll see you tomorrow at 8:00 p.m. MST for Game 2 in less than 19 hours.

20:00: Will we find a winner in this next 20 minutes? Fourth OT is a go! If we play 2:42 more, we’ll crack the top five for longest AHL games.

THIRD OVERTIME

0.0: Two full hockey games have solved nothing. Quadruple overtime is coming up, with both teams deadlocked in shots almost as evenly as the score at 52-51 for San Diego. Tonight is officially the eighth-longest game in AHL history.

2:02: Gambardella takes the neutral-zone flip and is in alone to win it, but pressure from the Gulls defender causes him to lose the puck.

4:08: Heroic block from Simon Benoit in front of goal for the Gulls as Benson tees up a one-timer.

6:45: We take a break as the ice is scraped, with both teams needing to find their second win to cap off this marathon match.

12:26: Polei on the breakaway to end it, but is denied!

14:11: Monstrous save by Glass as Callahan crashes the goal! We came close to the winner there just over 106 minutes into this game.

15:45: Good news for the Condors as Jones takes his place back on the Condors bench after that apparent right-leg injury.

20:00: We go again! Triple OT is underway at Rabobank Arena.

SECOND OVERTIME

0.0: Everything’s better in threes. Triple overtime on the horizon.

1:03: Another big save by Glass on Gambardella from the slot. At the other end, Comtois’ shot on the partial 2-on-1 is deflected over.

5:18: As we approach the final quarter of 2OT, Jones has yet to reappear on the Condors bench after falling awkwardly behind goal.

9:00: Bear with the open look to end it on a Condors 2-on-1, but still we go on. A pair of strong saves by Jeff Glass in goal for the Gulls.

9:44: Jones goes down in a heap behind the Condors net and is down. The defenceman slowly gets to his feet but he’s labouring.

11:57: Condors amping up the pressure and the Gulls are forced to ice it.

14:55: Evan Polei shows off his strength down low, earning a good wrap-around opportunity that began a good spell of possession for the Condors in the offensive zone.

20:00: Double the overtime, double the tension. We’re underway in 2OT tied at 2-2 with shots 37-35 in favour of San Diego.

FIRST OVERTIME

0.0: Feel like a little double OT? We’re heading there, as both the Gulls and Condors can’t get it done in the first 20 minutes of extra time. Tonight is officially the longest game in Bakersfield’s 21-year history, surpassing April 16, 2009 when the Condors defeated the Las Vegas Wranglers 6-5 at 15:26 of the first overtime in the ECHL Pacific Division semifinals.

29.0: The toe of Starrett just kept the Condors alive after the fanned-on shot by a Gulls forward looked like it would dribble over the line.

1:37: The Gulls holding the majority of possession, but Bear gets an open look from the slot with what’s been Bakersfield’s best chance of sudden death.

8:18: Progressing through OT at a good clip now, the Condors ice it after a long shift and remain stuck in their own zone. Puck is cleared and they’re allowed a change off the ensuing draw.

12:08: Russell goes bowling into Glass after contact from behind with only eight seconds remaining on the Condors powerplay.

14:00: Condors powerplay! A chance to win it with the man advantage as Max Jones heads to the sin bin for high sticking.

14:42: One-way traffic here in the first overtime as the Gulls ramp up the offensive pressure.

16:42: Starrett has kept the Condors afloat numerous times tonight, and does so again on another San Diego breakaway with the game on the line.

20:00: We’re underway here in ‘next goal wins’ territory.

THIRD PERIOD

0.0: After 60 minutes, we’re heading to overtime!

1:28: We’re into the dying stages of extra time, with the score still deadlocked at two.

10:28: Trevor Murphy of the Gulls ends up in a heap with the referee in San Diego’s corner and play is whistled down.

19:27: Just 11 seconds later, San Diego ties it before anyone can catch their breath. Justin Kloos isn’t going to miss after a fortunate non-call for the Gulls and the loose puck falling right next to the Condors goal. | BAK 2, SD 2

15:38: CONDORS BACK ON TOP! Joe Gambardella bangs it home to the complaint of Jeff Glass and and the Gulls who lobby that the netminder had it covered. It’ll count! | BAK 2, SD 1

19:28: We’re level. Justin Kloos puts it home over the sprawled out Starrett on the power play to tie the game early in the third | BAK 1, SD 1

20:00: Here we go – third-period action begins with the Condors ahead 1-0 in Game 1.

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: Shane Starrett… What can you say? The tender has come up massive once again for the Condors, this time in the dying moments, following a great pass from Corey Tropp to Max Jones to the left of goal. The left pad came out and stamped out the would-be equalizer with barely any time on the clock. Through 40, Bakersfield lead 1-0 thanks to Malone’s shorthanded goal, and San Diego will have 1:52 remaining with the man advantage from the restart.

8.7: Just seconds left in the second and the Condors go back to the penalty kill after Logan Day’s stick rides up high on Sam Steel in front of goal.

7:51: CONDORS SHORTIE! We’ve seen that before – Patrick Russell to Brad Malone – on the two-on-one with Bakersfield down a man. Second helper goes to Jones, his second assist point of the playoffs, and a third goal of the postseason for Malone | BAK 1, SD 0

9:23: It’s kicking off now physically as the rough stuff ensues after David Gust LEVELS Corey Tropp in the offensive zone with the puck in his feet. It’ll result in a power play for San Diego, their first opportunity with the man advantage, with the official call going down as two for interference.

10:39: Big blast from the point from Keegan Lowe, whose shot looked earmarked for the left side but Glass gets his outstretched glove to it.

12:21: We’re cruising through the second period now with only one whistle so far and we’re almost through eight minutes. 12-7 are the shots in favour of the visitors.

17:42: BIG MAN SHANE! His second big save on the breakaway, this time on Kiefer Sherwood, after the Condors had a big opportunity at the other end. Now we’re talkin’.

20:00: Teams are back out for the middle frame, yearning to break through after a scoreless opening period.

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: We’re scoreless through 20 minutes, with the Gulls leading in the shot department 7-5 after a feel-out process from both sides in the opening period of this seven-game series.

1:39: Bakersfield can’t convert with the man advantage as San Diego returns to full strength.

3:39: Callahan throws the body, then draws a retaliatory cross-checking penalty from Gulls centre Sam Carrick. Condors power play and the first of the contest!

6:26: A Gulls stretch pass skips over the stick of Logan Day and to the streaking Ben Street, who went in along on Starrett but the Condors netminder got a piece of his right pad on the wrister to send it out of play. We remain scoreless.

9:36: Starrett with the stretched-out pad save, his first major action in the opening half of the first.

14:36: The game finally breaks open after a cagey first five minutes, with Joe Gambardella getting the game’s first big chance after a giveaway by the Gulls at their own blue line. Jeff Glass takes it to the chest and makes the save.

18:21: A physical start to tonight’s game and the series, with both teams throwing their weight around early in this contest.

20:00: Game 1 of the Condors AHL Pacific Division Final against the San Diego Gulls is about to begin. Marody draws out of the lineup and is replaced by Nolan Vesey, who makes his playoff debut this season for Bakersfield.
