1:26: Gudbranson’s shot from the other end of the ice finds its way into the empty net somehow. | VAN 5, EDM 3

2:19: Canucks take their second too many men penalty of the night and it’s fortunate timing for the Oilers as they look to pull even and force overtime.

4:07: Anton Rodin converted a nice cross-ice pass from Stecher and deposited the puck into the open cage to make it 4-3 for the home team. | VAN 4, EDM 3

4:24: Pouliot gets called for tripping, giving Vancouver a chance to take the lead on the power play.

4:51: Shots are 26-25 for the Canucks with less than five minutes to play.

8:46: Patrick Maroon gets injured in the corner of the Oilers zone on what looked like a harmless collision with James Sheppard. He had to be helped off the ice and was favouring his left knee. Sheppard and Nurse each got two minutes for roughing after the incident.

12:57: Ellis acquitted himself well through his first seven minutes of action, turning aside all five shots he faced. Shots were 5-1 Canucks near the midway point of the final frame, to pull even on the shot clock 22-22.

20:00: Period three has begun. Nick Ellis is now in goal for the Oilers.

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: Shots on goal after two were 21-17 for Edmonton.

54.6: Once again, the Oilers respond back to tie the game. With 54 seconds to go in the middle frame, Jere Sallinen dropped the puck back to Anton Slepyshev who got it to Griffin Reinhart. Reinhart wired a wrist shot from the right circle glove side past Demko to make it 3-3. | EDM 3, VAN 3

4:16: Demko received two minutes for playing the puck behind the net outside of the trapezoid “safe area.”

4:27: Vancouver moved back in front after Joseph Abate corralled a pass from Alex Edler in the slot, then cut across the net before neatly backhanding it in. | VAN 3, EDM 2

9:41: Thatcher Demko replaced Ryan Miller in goal for Vancouver. Joseph Abate took an elbowing penalty for Edmonton’s fourth power play of the night.

13:41: Oilers lead 16-9 on the shot clock. On the one shot, Gustavsson came up with a big blocker save.

18:42: Alex Edler took a hooking penalty to put Edmonton right back on the power play.

20:00: Period two is now underway.

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: Shots on goal were 13-8 Oilers after one.

32.6: Caggiula finished a nice give-and-go exchange with Benoit Pouliot before he wired the puck from the right circle by Miller to get the game back on even terms with his second goal of the night. | EDM 2, VAN 2

56.0: Canucks get called for having too many men on the ice. The result is a two-man advantage for Edmonton.

2:08: A penalty to Joseph LaBate put the Oilers on the power play for the first time.

3:01: Vancouver regained the lead as Stecher pinched in before spotting Brendan Gaunce at the top of the right circle. Gaunce wired a shot from position past Gustavsson. | VAN 2, EDM 1

5:39: Patrick Maroon made an excellent play behind the net to stop the puck and then shovelled it in front where Drake Caggiula made no mistake, banging the puck past Miller to get the Oilers back on even terms. | EDM 1, VAN 1

7:40: From the right point, Troy Stecher’s wrist shot found its way through traffic and into the back of the net behind Oilers goaltender Jonas Gustavsson. | VAN 1, EDM 0

9:10: Griffin Reinhart accidentally clears the puck over the glass, giving Vancouver the game’s first power play.

10:17: Connor McDavid skated in on the rush with Jordan Eberle and Milan Lucic. McDavid’s backhand feed over to Lucic was put on net but stopped by Canucks starting goaltender Ryan Miller.

14:21: Shots on goal five minutes into the game were 7-2 Oilers as they carried the majority of play early.
